Lift chairs are chairs that feature a powered lifting mechanism that pushes the entire chair up from its base, allowing the user to easily move to a standing position. There are several varieties of lift chairs:
Two-position chairs
Recline from the upright position to the TV-watching position and anywhere in between. Two-position chairs have a limited reclining backrest, an elevating ottoman, designed for increased comfort while reading or watching television. The upright position places the chair back at a 90-degree angle with the floor. The reclined position places the chair back at approximately a 45-degree angle to the floor and an extending footrest comes out to hold the legs parallel to the floor. The upright position is also referred to as “sitting” position and the reclined position is referred to as the “reading/television viewing” position.
Three-position chairs
Recline further back to a napping position. Three-position chairs have an additional fully reclined position. Also known as the “napping” position, this third option allows the user to kick back for a nap. The extended reclining backrest that can be positioned in a number of angles. As with the Two-position chairs have an elevating ottoman, the three-position chairs have additional recline capabilities. The chair back is at approximately a 30-degree angle to the floor with the footrest still holding the user’s legs parallel to the floor.
Infinite-position chairs
Recline even further back for sleeping, and many of them can recline to a full Trendelenburg position. Infinite position chairs have separate controls allowing the back and the footrest to be operated independently. You can sit upright, put your feet up, or fully recline the back and leave your legs down.
